Blackboard’s Exemplary Course Program

Examples of practice Leave a Comment

Every year since 2000, Blackboard has run a competition to identify and disseminate best practices for designing high quality online courses. A rubric has been developed by Blackboard that identifies the criteria of an exemplary course. The rubric, broken down into four areas, details what is needed to produce a robust online course.

The four areas consist of:

  1. Course Design
  2. Interaction and Collaboration
  3. Assessment, and
  4. Learner Support

With each area being weighted between Incomplete (1) and Exemplary (5-6), the instructor/designer will be able to identify areas of improvement, the course’s strengths and weaknesses.

The rubric is freely available for use, you don’t have to enter into the competition to use it, so if you are wanting to take your Blackboard course to the next level, this is one way of doing it.

Access the rubric and the competition details to find out more about the program.
