Enhancements to Blackboard

Just sharing with you all that on the 2nd of December Blackboard will be upgraded.  Although the changes to take place are considered to be minor, these enhancements are very important as they aim at improving the staff and student experience in online learning and teaching.  These are as follow:

Browser Support

  • Blackboard 9.1 to support the Microsoft Edge Browser

Content Editor 

  • The content editor to supports HTML5 Audio and Video Playback in Chrome and Microsoft Edge Browsers
  • The default heading size for all embedded headings to be increased so they can be easily read in the view and edit settings

Announcement Date Restriction

  • When creating an announcement, “Not Date Restricted” to be selected by default

Discussion Boards and Thread

  • The descriptions of Forums will now appear in the Create Thread page; this improves accessibility for users
  • Students and teachers will be able to navigate from thread to thread without without having to return to the main Discussions page

Tests 

  • When creating a “hot spot” question, an image Alternate Text Box will be available

Student Mobile Application

  • Enable users to to embed images in HTML for in-line display
  • Issue related to due dates missing when (a non- English system is selected) will be fixed
  • Incorrect display of grades on the Grades page will be fixed
  • Authentication issues will be addressed

Other known issue to be addressed:

  • If an user uploads a file that contains a special character such as: /\ : ? * ” <> in the file name, the system will replace the character with an underscore (_)
